Back to the Future / Future at the Back

With September closing to an end, so is the month of architecture and its architecture challenges, exhibitions, happenings and conferences in Phnom Penh... and time for a little overview of what will stay in Phnom Penh - the buildings - after we move on to other topics.

Whilst others just try to remember the great architectural works of the past, especially the V shape of the famous Khmer architect Vann Molyvann, new high-rise buildings are sprouting one by one everyday just about all over Phnom Penh.

Square, Triangle, Dome, Circular... New offices, new houses, new designs and new ways of thinking. But still, they are all bearing the mixed ideas of the past and the present.

So, is this really a New Era and a New Style? Anyways, it's not just about buildings - don’t forget the sunlight!
