« My grandfather was one of the biggest film producers of the 1960’s. I learnt about him and his films when I was about 20, and I was so amazed and curious that I decided to make a documentary. Not only about him, but on Cambodian cinema as a whole at that time. »
That is why Davy Chou came back to Cambodia in the first place, that’s why now, you get the exceptional opportunity to discover the heyday of Cambodian films.
At the Chinese House, the team of Kon Khmer Koun Khmer (Cambodian Films, Cambodian Generation) has re-created the distinctive atmosphere of this golden era by setting up different spaces dedicated to the greatest public figures of the Cambodian cinema. They have used all available supports to complete their work: photos, drawings, paintings, music, biographies, architectural models, and, of course, movies.
What is more, 11 films from this extraordinary period will be screened during a nine-day festival and, behold! a Cambodian Rock and Roll Party (never seen before in this millennium) will be organized on October 24. So go get your blue suede flip flops and head to the Chinese house next week…
From October 17th to October 25th, 2009 at the Chinese House
