Global Hybrid

An ambitious exhibition will open this Thursday (July 02) at the Meta House: Global Hybrid, and Oeur Sokuntevy will be part of it.

This self-portrait has been made for this exhibition: there she is, split in two, between the Cambodian culture and the Western culture - traditions, family and conventions on one side, technology, freedom and individualism on the other. There she is, trying to "find the balance".

We had the chance to meet Sokuntevy, who is currently living in Battambang, her homeland, after a few years in Phnom Penh. "Hybridization should be positive", she says. "We should share more between cultures", and the same goes between artists themselves, who are often too busy with their work... And this whole Global Hybrid exhibition provides a great opportunity for this. Once again, kudos to the Meta House!
